A pipeline operator suspected significant levels of liquid contamination were present within a large diameter gas export pipeline system. It was felt that removal of the potentially large volumes of liquid by traditional pigging technology could lead to disruption of gas flow and the associated cost implications . Utilising one of the features of the varipig system i.e. centreline running, a programme of progressive cleaning was implemented.
